PJ Day

Just lately Julianna and I have been getting over a bit of a cold. Don't ask we how we got a cold in the middle of summer. Anyway, this morning I made an executive decision that we would lounge around in our pj's on the couch and watch tv......Julianna agreed.

Baby Update

I had another appointment with the doctor today and the good news is that the baby finally uncrossed its legs......it's a GIRL!! The bad news is that she is a BIG girl. So big in fact, that my chances of having a natural birth are not looking good. My doctor has referred me to a specialist to get his opinion, but at this stage, he thinks it will be a caesarean section on the earlier date of the 16th May.

What's Been Happening

We have had a pretty busy past few weeks. Jonathan has been working away and is home at the moment but it looks like he will be leaving again next week. It's not ideal having him gone, we all hate it, but the money is really good so we figure it's just a short term sacrifice in order to get ahead a bit.

We have also been doing some house hunting over the past few weeks. We found one that we were really excited about. It had all the rooms we were after, 10mins from a major shopping centre and movie complex, 15mins from the beach, on a big block, close to the freeway and train station and, since it was a bank repo it was quite cheap at $215,000. There was a lot of cosmetic work to be done on the inside, which also gave it a lot of potential to increase the value. When we researched it we found that, with all the cosmetic work done, we could resell it for at least $300,000. We were just on our way to the real estate agent office to put in an offer when she called us and told us that someone had already beat us to it. So now we are back to the drawing board. We have found another potential house we are looking at, which isn't in such a great location and also needs a lot of work doing on it cosmetically. It is on a big block and has a swimming pool in the back yard. They are asking $249,000 but, with all the cosmetic work that needs doing, we don't really think it is worth that. We have decided to go ahead and put in an offer (a pretty low offer) but we are not really expecting to get it accepted. We won't be too disappointed if it doesn't.

So with all the house hunting, Jonathan coming and going and everything else going on we haven't really had much time to think about this baby that will very soon be here. I'm afraid it has completely snuck up on me and I am completely unprepared. We still have no idea what the sex is but we have another appointment on Thursday, so we will hopefully find out then.

Australia Day

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated Australia Day. We went down to the park where they had set up a fair ground with rides and games and then waited until night time to watch the fireworks. Julianna LOVED the fireworks. She kept pointing at them and shouting, "look!!!" I think we may have been sat a little too close though because we all came away with ash in our hair. Julianna also enjoyed all of the rides and games and even won a giant (and I mean GIANT) pig......I have no idea where we are going to put it.

On another note, we have now finally completed Jonathan's application for permanent residency. Although we are not completely decided on staying here forever, it will mean that he will be able to study here without being classed as an international student (and it costing us a fortune in school fees) and he is eligible for tax breaks and he can also apply for government jobs (which pay a lot better). The process takes a few months so now we just have to wait.

Also, the bump is keeping its legs crossed so we still have no idea if it's pink or blue.

November/December

It has been a busy, busy, busy past couple of months. Luckily Jonathan got a couple of weeks off work so we were able to spend some time together and get a few things done. I especially appreciated him being home over Christmas as it was just too hot for my incubating to bear and I spent Christmas either camped in front of the air conditioning, in the pool or in a cold shower. The heat aside, Julianna had a fantastic Christmas. With her birthday being at the end of October, the whole concept of unwrapping presents was still fresh in her memory. I also had a busy couple of months at work, since we hosted both the Bon Jovi concert and the U2 concert. Luckily I was able to sit and enjoy the Bon Jovi concert and take Jonathan along as well but I wasn't as lucky with the U2 concert, but still got to be a part of it during production.

October

October has been such a crazy, busy month for us, which has definitely had it's ups and downs. The month started off at a down, with me having a car accident. We were luck in that it could have been a lot worse. Julianna and I were both in the car and someone came straight into the side of us. They went straight in through the back.....right were Julianna was sitting in her seat. The whole thing happened so fast and all I could remember was hearing Julianna screaming hysterically. I jumped out of the car to get her out but I couldn't open the door. Her seat had also been knocked pretty badly so I couldn't see her. I started bawling my eyes out and some people came over to help me. Together we were able to pull her out through the front and miraculously there was not a scratch on her, in fact as soon as she found out she had an audience, she immediately stopped crying and started putting on a show for them. Unfortunately though the same couldn't be said for the car, it was completely totaled. On the upside though we got quite a nice insurance payout (more than we paid for the car) and we were able to buy a new one. Ironically Jonathan and I had been pricing up SUV's for a while but couldn't afford one without going into debt, but thanks to our insurance payout and a great deal we were able to find, we now have our SUV, so everything worked out fantastically.

So after all the drama with the accident and getting a new car, we finished the month with Julianna's first birthday. Her birthday was on the Friday and she had her party with all her friends on the Saturday.

That night we also had our Boot n Loot

I just can't believe how quickly the last year has flown by, but at the same time it feels like Julianna has been with us forever. She has changed so much over this past year and is now walking, talking and LOTS of singing. She has so much personality and is quite the comedian.
